A guide to the different types of water filters and water treatment machines.
Below are the different kinds of water filtration system with a short description of how it works.
Charcoal Water Filters
These are easy to install water filters, inexpensive, readily available and covers the basic functions of filtration. It absorbs the impurities of the water as it passes through and is able to filter out most deadly contaminants like cryptosporidium and guardia. Survey shows 90% of household have this type of water filtration appliance.
Water Distillers
This water treatment system delivers the purest water and offers the least chance of allowing harmful organism to enter the body as distillation rids water of all its impurities. However, there is a growing concern that distilled purified water affects the balance of minerals in the body so people now accepts the fact that dissolved minerals in the water are natural than purified water.
Ceramic Water Filters
It comes as a cartridge that fits a normal bench top filter. At the core of the ceramic filter element is a Diatomaceous Earth, a fossil substance made up of tiny silicon shells left by trillions of microscopic, one celled algae called diatoms that have inhabited the waters of the earth for million of years. Several ceramic filters uses nano-silver impregnated into a porous ceramic outer shell which traps bacteria down to as low as .22 of a micron in particle size.
Reverse Osmosis
Is a process that draws water through an extremely fine membrane that acts like an extremely fine filter to create drinkable water from salty or contaminated water. The contaminated water is put on one side of the membrane, pressure is applied to stop, and then reverse the osmotic process. It requires a lot of pressure, the process is fairly slow but it has been proven to work and is effective. The result is extremely finely filtered water.
Water Ionizer – Electrolyzed Alkaline Water Treatment
The process involves the method of separating the water into two streams of alkaline mineral rich water and acid mineral rich water. It uses a series of magnetically charged plates and a ceramic separator filament. As water passes between the plates, the magnetic field draws alkaline minerals to one side of the ceramic filament resulting in alkaline water and the other draws the acidic minerals that results in acid water.
