Alkaline Diet

The proliferation of fast food in our modern society has influenced our way of eating, the food choices we make and our preferred method of feeding our family.  One type of diet that is gaining popularity among the American consumers is the Alkaline Diet also known as Acid Alkaline Diet – it is a type of diet using the theory that specific foods when consumed leave a residue or ash.  Mineral containing elements such as Calcium, Iron, Zinc, Copper and Magnesium are the principal components of the ash.  Such food rich in these minerals are classified as alkaline food; by its name these foods are rich in basic or alkali mineral.
Alkaline diet foods such as green leafy vegetables are the number one choice; the greener the vegetable the more benefits our body get from them.  Other vegetables such as potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant also qualify in this category; any vegetable that you can peel the skin is considered alkali producing food.  When dealing with vegetable, one should be careful in order to strictly follow an alkaline diet plan. For example, raw spinach is high protein alkaline diet food but once cooked the spinach will change its property into acid forming food.  Knowing the properties of food in their original form or modified form is important so you can really reap the benefits of changing your diet.  Consult an alkaline diet book at your nearest local book store, it contains important information you need in deciding which food to prepare and serve your family.  The book can provide you an alkaline diet chart that would list all the food rich in this mineral and several alkaline diet snacks that retains the alkalinity properties even in its modified form such as baked, fried, cooked, smoked, peeled or unpeeled.  All these data is relevant for you to make intelligent choices on food consumption.
