Alkaline forming foods are those whose nutrients after the process of digestion contributes to the maintenance of the body’s pH level from 7.35 to 7.45. Studies and researches show that foods belonging to this category consist of green leafy vegetables, organic fresh fruits, herbs, spices, nuts and legumes. Food high in acid content inhibits nerve action while foods rich in alkalinity stimulate nerve action inside the system of the human body.
Human blood registers at approximately 7.4 on the pH scale; a pH lower than seven is considered acidic and pH level above seven is in the alkalinity range. The body’s pH balance plays an important role in a person’s total well being as virus, bacteria; infection and other harmful organism thrive when our blood stream is too acidic. Recent health experiment on alkaline foods apple cider vinegar reveals that this type of vinegar despite being an acidic solution has an alkalinizing effect on the body after digestion. The study recommends a dosage of one to two teaspoon of ACV in water to be taken as a daily health tonic drink to help maintain alkalinity of the body. The results of these studies, experiments and researches have not been fully verified by appropriate government agencies; and although it is a popular practice, medical experts have not substantiated the effectiveness of this alternative tonic drink.
Some practitioners of holistic medicine claims that apple juice alkaline content when mixed with ACV can help neutralize hyper-acidity, lower blood glucose level thereby reducing the glycemic index of starchy foods. Some other studies show the relationship of alkaline foods for baby boy conception. These so-called studies have yet to be verified and not supported by the Food and Drug Administration.
To live healthy is to live a clean life; there are benefits of alkaline body just as there are benefits of acidic food. Anything in extreme or in excess can ruin the balance of the body’s system and may result in serious medical concerns. Live well, practice balance and thrive!
